About the Position

SUI is looking for an Interior Designer to support its Union Square project.

This is a project-based position for someone with a strong design eye and practical experience managing large physical spaces. The designer will work with SUI founders, operations staff, architects, contractors, and vendors.

The ideal candidate can move between creative design work and hands-on project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Help develop the interior design vision for SUI Union Square.
• Refine the overall design direction.
• Create mood boards.
• Develop material palettes.
• Create space layouts.
• Create high-quality digital renderings.
• Translate creative ideas into practical design solutions.
• Take and verify on-site measurements.
• Plan furniture, fixtures, equipment, and spatial layouts.
• Source furniture and lighting.
• Source finishes, fixtures, décor, and materials.
• Research vendors.
• Obtain pricing and samples.
• Track lead times.
• Research alternative products when needed.
• Develop FF&E schedules.
• Maintain sourcing lists.
• Maintain design budgets.
• Support purchasing and ordering.
• Keep the project within budget.
• Track orders and deliveries.
• Track substitutions and outstanding design items.
• Coordinate with architects and contractors.
• Work with fabricators and vendors.
• Coordinate closely with the SUI team.
• Visit the Union Square site regularly.
• Troubleshoot design and sourcing challenges.
• Help oversee installation.
• Ensure the completed space reflects the intended design vision.

Required Qualifications

• Strong interior design portfolio.
• Strong aesthetic sense.
• Ability to create a cohesive physical environment.
• Strong digital rendering and visualization skills.
• Ability to translate creative direction into practical solutions.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Resourceful and practical approach.
• Ability to manage multiple project details independently.
• Comfortable taking on-site measurements.
• Ability to work with architectural drawings and floor plans.
• Ability to work regularly on-site in New York City.

Preferred Experience

Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred:

• Hospitality.
• Wellness.
• Spa.
• Hotels.
• Restaurants.
• Retail.
• High-end commercial interiors.
• Experiential commercial spaces.

Design Software

Proficiency with relevant design software such as:

• AutoCAD.
• SketchUp.
• Revit.
• Rhino.
• Adobe Creative Suite.
• Similar interior design and visualization software.

FF&E and Project Skills

• FF&E sourcing experience.
• Purchasing experience.
• Design budgeting experience.
• Vendor research experience.
• Order tracking experience.
• Experience working with contractors and architects.
• Experience managing project timelines and design details.

Work Schedule

• Approximately 20–30 hours per week.
• Project duration is approximately 4 months.
• Hybrid work arrangement.
• Regular on-site work in Manhattan is required.
• Remote work is available as appropriate.

Compensation

Pay is $50 per hour.
