About Studio Ellison

Studio Ellison is a solo-run interior design studio based in Nashville, Tennessee.

The studio is managing a growing number of renovation and new construction projects. It is looking for an independent designer who can provide project support on a contract basis.

About the Position

Studio Ellison is hiring a Contract Interior Designer to support projects from concept through completion.

The designer will work directly with the studio owner. The position also involves working with contractors and clients to keep projects moving.

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. Projects are offered as they become available. There are no guaranteed hours or minimum projects.

The position may grow into a more permanent opportunity as the studio's needs develop.

Key Responsibilities

• Support renovation projects.
• Support new construction projects.
• Assist with projects from concept through completion.
• Help with space planning.
• Select materials.
• Prepare construction documentation.
• Create accurate drawings.
• Create project documentation using AutoCAD or Revit.
• Work closely with the studio owner.
• Coordinate with contractors.
• Communicate with clients.
• Keep projects moving according to project needs.
• Source furniture.
• Source fixtures.
• Source finishes.
• Source materials.
• Work with trade brands and retail brands.
• Maintain project organization.
• Track project timelines.
• Maintain project documentation.
• Manage multiple projects when assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Interior Design or a related field.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Professional experience beyond internships or academic projects.
• Renovation or new construction experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of furniture brands and vendors.
• Strong knowledge of lighting brands and vendors.
• Strong knowledge of finish suppliers and sourcing resources.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.
• Ability to manage deadlines.
• Collaborative working style.
• Strong communication skills.
• Comfortable working closely with the studio owner and project partners.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to produce clean and accurate work.
• Reliable and self-motivated.
• Comfortable working under a contract or freelance structure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SketchUp.
• Experience with Photoshop.
• Experience with rendering or visualization tools.
• Familiarity with construction documents.
• Experience working with contractors and trades.
• Portfolio with renovation projects.
• Portfolio with new construction projects.
• Existing relationships with local vendors.
• Existing relationships with showrooms or trades.

Work Structure

This is a project-by-project contract position.

There are no guaranteed hours or projects. Either party may accept or decline individual projects as they become available.

The role is remote. The studio is based in Nashville, Tennessee.

Compensation

Pay is $30–$40 per hour based on experience and skillset.
